About the doctors
Dr. Rupiper is the veterinary
practice owner who purchased EPAH in March, 2000. Dr. Rupiper has been practicing
veterinary medicine since 1991. Residing in the wine country and owning this hospital
had been a goal for many years. Dr. Rupiper graduated from UC-Davis after completing
four externships in avian medicine at various specialty institutions throughout California.
He
is an avian specialist, and board certified in avian practice. Dr. Rupiper sees all small companion animals
at EPAH, especially dogs, cats, and birds, as well as small mammals. In addition to pet birds, he provides professional services for all pet
avicultural hobbies such as poultry flocks, ratites, waterfowl collections, pigeon
racing, performing and showing, cage bird breeding, etc. He has written two versions of a co-authored book, Exotic Animal Formulary.
In addition to the book, Dr. Rupiper speaks at local bird clubs, veterinary organizations, and has been a guest speaker at colleges.
He is active in many organizations including: Association of Avian Veterinarians, Redwood

Veterinary Medical Association, Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, American Federation of Aviculture, and the Redwood Empire Cage Bird Club. His
personal hobbies include spending
family time with his two young boys, golfing,
camping, fishing, gardening, and breeding fruit doves and cichlid fish.
Dr. Sarah Powers

University of Arizona and her doctorate from both Washington and Oregon State Universities.
She has completed many preceptorships in multiple disciplines, including but not
limited to: internal medicine and surgery, mobile small animal medicine, dermatology

About the hospital
We are proud to say that
East Petaluma Animal Hospital (EPAH) is an American Animal Hospital Association certified hospital (AAHA).
Please take a virtual
tour through
the hospital. East Petaluma Animal
Hospital, EPAH, was started in 1992 in the Arroyo Shopping Center in southeast Petaluma.
From its inception, dogs, cats, and exotic pets have had a place to go for excellent
medical care. Purchased by Dr. Rupiper in March, 2000, EPAH has added many new services.
Hours have been extended to all weekdays and also extended hours on Saturdays.
We've added additional laboratory services
such as in-house blood panels (no need to wait 'til tomorrow!), special avian diagnostics
(in-house CBC's, chemistries, cytology,
laparoscopy and biopsy), improved
radiology diagnostics, avian
endoscopy (including surgical sexing) in-house
FeLV and FIV testing, in-house heartworm and
Lyme’s testing, and more. Faster
computers and enhanced software allow us to search our database more quickly to avoid
long on-hold times and to serve clients more quickly at the office. We've also added
technicians to provide more personal attention to our patients. Additional anesthetic
machines and monitoring equipment provides a greater margin
of safety for surgical and dental procedures.
We now offer ultrasonic
dental cleaning as well as referral services for advanced canine and feline dental
care such as endodontics, orthodontics, restorative procedures, and oral-facial-maxillary
surgical procedures. Our dog and cat patients also may now benefit from endoscopic
procedures such as otoendoscopy (examining the ears) and you can even take home a
CD-ROM with pictures or hard copy photographs of your pets ear canals!! For our avian clients, we've also added special
services such as new
and easily disinfected hospitalization incubators, M.A.P.
Certification, on-site necropsies, avicultural management, pigeon race performance
management, avian surgery (including beak prosthetics), diagnostic and surgical endoscopy, surgical sexing,
behavorial management, etc.
