The following is a recipe for a soft food diet to be fed as a sole diet for overweight birds, birds with liver disease or as a supplement to an already balanced diet. Fresh fruits and vegetables may be substituted as well.

One bag frozen peas

One bag frozen corn

One bag frozen carrots

One can lima beans

One can kidney beans

One can garbonzo beans

One bag of cooked spiral 3-colored pasta

1/8 teaspoon Vitamin powder (ie. Avicon, Super Preen)
-added fresh each feeding on alternate days of calcium powder

1/8 teaspoon Calcium powder (ie. D-Cal-Phos)
-added fresh each feeding on alternate days of vitamins

Mix first 7 ingredients together in large bowl. Package into smaller quantities. Freeze bulk of mixture and refrigerate 8-12 ounces in sealed container to be used daily to feed. Thaw frozen portions as needed. Hard-boiled egg and soaked monkey chow may be added if removed within 4 hours.

Dry-food Diet Recipe

The following is a supplementary dry food diet to be fed as a treat to young weaning birds, birds 'hooked' on seeds only, or as a supplement to an already balanced diet.

1 bag uncooked Spiral 3-colored pasta

2-3 cups Wheat, Corn or Rice Chex cereal, Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Kix, Grape Nuts, etc

2-4 cups Pretty Bird Pelleted Diet (or other brand)

0-2 cups Science Diet K-9 Maintenance Dog Food

0-2 cups dry Monkey Chow Bisquits (can be crumbled)

Mix ingredients in large bowl and package into smaller, airtight containers. Store in dry place. This diet can be added to seed mixes as well.
